Consciousness (small)

Consciousness is our ability not only to recognize ourselves in a mirror, but also to recognize the roles each of us play in the greater scheme of the universe. It allows us to think and imagine and to remember where we were, where we are and where we want to go.
Some music while you read...

It allows us to learn and to plan our future actions so that we can achieve our goals.

When we are born, we are blind and helpless children filled with a basic instinct to want instant satisfaction.

We grow into adults and become aware of the constrains of reality and exchange emotional feelings for rational thinking. When we become parents, we manipulate feelings with thinking to mediate conflicts that adults and children have. Like wise old people trying to keep the peace.

As you grow old, your “child” remains even though you might not be aware of it. So does your “adult” and your “parent.” You are the “id” you were born with, the “ego” you grow up to be, and the “super ego” you will became. Your adult pleases the whims of your child, while your parent uses feelings of guilt and moral arguments to keep your adult from over reacting and to feel like a winner.

For every winner there are many losers. Losing can hurt and your consciousness can suffer even though it is only a very small part of your consciousness which had deep hidden roots potentially high reaching branches. We are all connected in a network of families, friends, colleagues, and enemies in a society that forms a greater consciousness that has roots going back billions of years.

Each cell in your body originated from the DNA 4 billion years ago when life miraculously originated and evolved from bacteria to people with consciousness.

You closely share your consciousness with more bacteria cells living in and on your body than there are cells in your body. You are covered by bacteria all over your outer skin as well as down your mouth and inside your gut and stomach linings. Bacteria take home deep inside all of your cells as the mitochondria that generate the energy you need to live. This makes you a symbiotic ecosystem where the bacteria and your body are dependent on each other to stay alive and as a result is an integral part of your consciousness.

Every person in a society is like a cell in a person. Like cells, people depend on the other people to work together to keep society going. Like you and the cells of your body, every person has a role to keep society flourishing, whether leader, warrior, thinker, artist, gardener or consumer. This places people in a symbiotic ecosystem with society where you are dependent on each other to stay alive.

Your personal consciousness is very vast.

From your DNA roots of all your ancestors to the branches of the society you dependent on which flowers to your dependence on nature which depends on the laws of physics and life. You are blessed to have such a rich and such a vast consciousness.

So next time you are hurt emotionally, and your consciousness gets shattered and rattled, do not forget that what got hurt was not your entire consciousness, but just a very small part of your greater consciousness.

Perhaps a part of your greater consciousness can turn your personal tragedy into a comedy just for you.

Even the most tragic moments have the power to produced unforgettably beautiful melodies that are either very sad, or very joyous and that can be shared and felt by all.

Who am I?

I am a living being, one of 7 billion who has the free will to think the possible and to imagine the impossible. My roots are sprouted from bacteria 4 billion years ago and I depend on bacteria to keep alive. I am aware of my desires, my family and friends, my feelings and my environment.
